Acing the AuditionsAuditions are one of the biggest challenge every actor faces. Actors prepare for years hoping that they will be able to get through one of these auditions. Many of us give several auditions each month yet fail to get call backs from any of them. As a result many actors feel that they have been not treated fairly and something more than talent is needed to succeed in showbiz. While this might be true to some extent, the reason why actors fail to get through the auditions is that they do not take auditions seriously. The fail to realize that auditions act as a doorway to mainstream acting world. If you have prepared yourself for the role you are auditioning for, you can easily beat the competition. Read this article for some more effective tips on how to get through the auditions.

First of all, make sure that your headshots are properly done and submitted on time. Always submit headshots taken by professionals which look good. Don't submit amateur shots taken by your friends when you were hanging out together. Also, if you look a different person from your headshots, make sure that you mention it in your application. However, as far as possible, try to make sure that you and your headshot look the same.

A very important document you send with your application is your resume. Resume provide you with an excellent opportunity to boast about your training and work experience. This is your chance to prove that you are well qualified for the role. If you have done any big plays, mention it in the resume. Also, if you have trained under a big name, write about it in the resume. However, omit the details of your school plays and any work you have done a long time back. If you have some special skills, such as knowledge of a foreign language, or martial arts, mention that as well in the resume. However make sure that you know enough about the skill you are talking about. You never know when the casting director will ask you to demonstrate your skill on the stage.

Make sure that you have read the script and you are familiar with the role before you go the audition. If possible try to know the status of other characters, i.e., whether they have already been casted. If not, read their lines a well. There have been many instances where an actor was rejected for the role he originally went for but instead got to play some other character.

It's also important to pay attention to your clothes before going to the auditions. Dress professionally and groom yourself according to the role you are playing. However don't go overboard and keep your appearance subtle.
During the auditions, if you feel you have made a mistake, stop immediately and ask for a second chance to start over. If you get the permission to start again, make sure that you do not falter again during the audition.

While it' important to be polite and friendly, don't go out of your way to appear charismatic and an easy going guy. Start the audition with a hello and end it with a thank you. Some days later, you can send a thank you note and inquire about the results. However don't send unnecessary gifts, which will be taken as a bribe from your side.

Casting directors go through several auditions to get the right person. They have seen hundreds of actors and can easily segregate good actors from bad ones. If you understand the script and the character, you will be able to give a much better performance. Casting directors love to see intensity and commitment in their actors. You need to show your fun and confident side to bag the role. There is a certain indefinable quality about good actors which is apparent the moment they walk in for the auditions. Try to inculcate that quality in yourself and very soon you will be picked up by a veteran director. Good luck!
