A fit body is almost a prerequisite for becoming an actor. Many of us head towards a gym to attain our dream body. However the problem with gym workouts is that they tend to get boring after a point of time. While the gym looks quite exciting for the first few weeks, going there after sometime seems like a chore. Another problem with gym workout is that it doesn't develop our overall personality. All you do is, run on the same treadmill; lift the same weights and workout on the same machines. To counter this problem many fitness experts suggest outdoor activities as an alternative to gym workouts. Not only you will burn extra calories but it will also give you an opportunity to learn some new skills. And you can do all this without getting bored.
There are several advantages of outdoor physical activities. First of all, it can help in propelling your career in the right direction. Different physical activities help in developing different skills. For example, you can develop hand eye coordination by getting into fencing. Or, you can learn to handle yourself gracefully through sword fighting. You can brag about these skills in your resume. If you are skilled in some sports it can help you in bagging those roles where your skills are required. Outdoor activities are not just about pumping iron or running mindlessly on the treadmill. You are not thinking about how your muscles are shaping up. Instead, you are trying to find a solution to the problem you are facing. You have to take decision in split seconds, coordinate with different people, and sometimes lead a team towards a common goal. You also develop the ability of anticipating your opponents move. These experiences are life changing and very valuable from an actor's perspective. There have been many shy and timid people who have completely transformed themselves by taking up some adventure sports.
The most obvious outcome which you will see is in your fitness level. Outdoor activities challenge different muscle groups and get the best out of them through constant action. Sports like swimming are excellent to develop a V shaped back. Rock climbing is an exciting way to get in shape. Similarly, if you want to develop your core try soccer or martial arts. The best part of these activities is that you will never feel as if you are working out. Pick up these activities to have fun. The improvements you see in your physique is simply icing on the cake.
While working out in the gym involves more or less similar exercises, outdoor activities give you loads of options. If you are an adventurous type, you can choose mountaineering or skiing. You also have option of sports such as soccer, basketball or tennis which involves active participation. You can also opt for yoga if you are more into meditation. No matter what your interests are, there would be something or the other to whet your appetite. If possible, pick up more than one activity to get multiple benefits. However, make sure that there are enough facilities in your locality to practice your chosen sport. Do not make huge investments in gears and equipments until you have tried the sport for some time and you want to stick with it for long. Also, look for certified trainers for activities like rock climbing and other potentially dangerous sports. Never try them without proper supervision.
