If you organize a debate on the topic 'Acting as a career choice', there will be as many opinions for the topic as against it. People have different reason to believe whether acting is a good (or a bad) career choice. WHY ACTING MAKES FOR A GOOD CAREER?
1. You become a demigod- As a successful actor; you will have millions of fans. People see you as a near perfect person and look up to you with high reverence. People will follow your every move, talk about you over dinner, try to inculcate your habits and even name their babies after you. These things seldom happen in any other career and are a very important reason why so many people aspire to become an actor.
2. Money- An acting career can make you a lot of money. You can play with latest gadgets, roam around in expensive cars, live in a palatial house, Wear outrageously expensive shoes and basically do anything which money can allow you to do. While starting an acting career could be difficult, once you are settled money would be the last thing you have to worry about. Not only you would be earning a handsome amount directly from acting, you can also add several revenue streams to your annual income. You can easily start a restaurant chain, launch a perfume line, or venture into any other business and add up to your income.
3. Interesting work profile- As an actor, you will never have to do the same thing again and again. You will be in different locations and playing different character in each movie. Each role will be a new challenge and will require a different kind of preparation. If you are the person who needs variety in his job and want to do something interesting every now and then, acting could be your true calling.
4. Influential power- As an actor you will have the power to make others laugh, cry, fall in love, get scared or feel any other emotion by your ability to emote on screen. You will have the power of touching people's soul and giving them an ability to see things in a new light. Teenagers will copy the way you walk, talk, wear clothes, style your hair or even kiss. Whatever you do would become a style statement and would be copied by millions around the globe.
While the above points give thumbs up to acting, following points could be a bit o dampener for someone who aspires to become an actor. So read it at your own risk.
1. It's not all about talent- While you cannot go a long way without talent; just having raw talent is not enough. While you may be super talented, a break will not come to you by itself. You will have to work hard to seize any opportunity which comes across. You also have to be a good networker and have the ability to make friends easily with right people. Moreover, you also need a big dose of luck to succeed in tinsel town.
2. You may have to let go of little joys of life- Well, That's the irony of a star's life. Though you can easily enjoy all the big gifts of life, you may have to let go of small things such as taking a stroll in the park or eating at a hot dog stand.
3. You may have to wear a mask sometimes- Stars do not act just in front of camera. Sometimes they have to act in real life as well. For example, you have to act happy and cheerful when you are not, act friendly with people whom you feel like hitting and keep your cool in front of journalist who may ask stinging questions just to get a reaction out of you. People will expect you to behave in a certain fashion and you have to be true to their expectations more often than not.
So now when we have presented some pro and cons of the acting career, you should be in a better place to decide which side you want to support. The sole purpose of this article was to make you realize that there are two sides of every coin. An acting career comes with its own set of pro and cons.
