We strongly recommend all aspiring actors to watch these movies at least once to understand what acting is all about.
1. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - It's a story about a banker who is accused of murdering his wife. He's sent to a prison where he forges friendship with Red, played by Morgan Freeman. The story is all about how he tries to bring a change in the lives of prison inmates by starting a library and introducing them to opera. This movie was based on the short story, ‘Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption', written by Stephen King. When the movie was initially released, it didn't set the box office on fire. Though it was nominated for seven academy awards, it was never really popular until it was released in the home video format. This movie is a must watch due to the brilliant performance of Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins.
2. 12 Angry Men (1957) - This movie was much ahead for the time in which it was released. It's a story about the trial of a boy, who is accused of murdering his father. The title refers to the Jury Members who have locked themselves in a room to discuss the case and decide the final verdict. While almost all the jury members are convinced that the boy is guilty, one of them didn't agree and stood his ground. Watch this movie for the brilliant act by Henry Fonda and Lee J. Cobb. Both of these actors were completely opposite to each other. While Fonda played a mild mannered guy, J. Cobb was brilliant as a frustrated and disgruntled father. When you watch this movie, especially focus on Henry Fonda and how well he emotes with his eyes, even without speaking.
3. Withnail & I (1987)- This is a highly under rated British Comedy about two British Actors who are struggling to find work and living in a miserable condition. They decide to go to countryside for a small vacation. What comes' next is an unpredictable story and some amazing acting by Richard E. Grant & Paul McGann, who are in the lead roles. The movie flopped when it was released, but it went on to become a cult classic when it was released on video and telecasted on local channels.
4. The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) - If you think Will Smith can't act, this movie will change your opinion. This is a story of a salesman who becomes homeless and is working to get a job as an investment broker. It's an inspiring movie about the struggle of a man against the odds and how he overcomes difficult problems. This movie will surely touch your heart. Watch out for the incredible ending when he gets the job. This move has got one of best endings, where not much is said through words but everything is communicated through expressions. Simply brilliant.
